I agree, they have used some nice mechanisms. Open and honest dialogue with the costumers is always a good idea - and to make some concrete actions based on the input from the costumers is even braver.

Whether most of the campaign is set-up and primarily a marketing stunt is the big question! I've heard some rumors :o) - but that doesn’t change the fact that the campaign is very well thought through.

Good point! I agree the in-store experience was quite good. There were more in-store personnel than there were costumers and they were very interested in defining my needs and the products were displayed quite nice.

I can definitely point out one very good reason why you got that special emotional connection to the Iphone when you went to the states last week: “The apple store”! I know, because I have felt “the magic” myself and I can still clearly remember when I first saw the shining apple in the center of the glass box at Fifth Avenue, New York – that was for me the most exiting “tourist attraction” during our stay in New York ;o)

Apple understands that in order to get you to buy their products they have to show you what they can do. You have to try the features, feel it, experience it and most important of all learn it. Getting someone to buy a Mac instead of a PC is about showing how easy it is to do the transition. Their stores are entertaining, aesthetic, and give you a learning experience. We don’t have anything like it in Denmark (and most of Europe). It is a place where you feel like you could spend hours and you feel like coming back to learn more – and most important, you feel sad if you leave without one of those nice looking white bags ….

Have fun with your Nokia, Sony or whatever phone you have – it is without a doubt outmatching the Iphone in many functions – but it will never fill that gap in your stomach that you will feel until the day you leave a Apple Store with a white bag!
